Brian E. Faulkner: Public Television Narrator, Writer & Emmy Award Winner.

Brian is known for his clear documentary writing style and collaborative spirit when working with Public TV producers, shooters and editors.  He has earned five Emmy awards and has been acclaimed for his writing and narration on more than 120 episodes of the PBS North Carolina (UNC-TV)Our State series, which first aired in 2003 and ran for more than sixteen years.

"It's a pleasure to hand Brian Faulkner files of diverse footage
and get back a script with both style and substance."

"Brian's audio arrives as a complete package
ready to plug into the final mix."

                        - Jim Bramlett, UNC-TV Producer -

A dramatic (and surprising) mini-documentary about how North Carolina-based submarine hunting dirigibles helped win World War II.  Written and narrated by Brian Faulkner.  The music and voice interplay on this piece is extraordinary.
If you'd like to transform an ordinary standup or interview segment into an Emmy award-winning work of art, please give Brian a call.  He's real easy to work with ...
Each Our State Public Television segment, produced by PBS North Carolina's (formerly UNC-TV), is a television adaptation of two or three articles from Our State magazine, a richly designed and much loved monthly that features stories about the people, culture and traditions  of North Carolina.  Our State TV explores historic homes in North Carolina, North Carolina artists and musicians, National Parks and State Parks in North Carolina and other memorable subjects.  The program has been called UNC-TV's "jewel in the crown" because of local ratings comparable to PBS shows like Masterpiece Theater, NOVA and NATURE.

Brian's challenge (and pleasure) has been to adapt Our State magazine's unique style for Public Television through sixteen- plus years on the air, including more than 120 segments written and (mostly) narrated by Brian Faulkner.

Our State magazine won a variety of regional Emmy awards in the 2012 Magazine Program category.  One is for Trail of Trust, the inspiring story of blind hiker Trevor Thomas.  Another, Playing by Heart, tells the story of Jim Avett, his family and the Avett birthright - making music.  Includes mention of the Avetts' famous sons, who play a minor part in this story.

Two additional Our State segments also were awarded Emmys in the Magazine Series category that year -- both written and narrated by Brian Faulkner:

This story is a great example of how to make what other-wise may have been an ordinary television feature really shine. Welcome to Warrenton, a front-porch kind of place with more than its share of fascinating people and history.
Wilmington artist Ivey Hayes shows off his colorful painting style. The challenge here was to combine an unusual story with terrific art and inspired original  music so that viewers never forget this colorful artist.
